Carbon Composite Fin Blades

The Blades:

116+:
New for 2007. 116+ blades are the stiffest fin made by CBR. The 116+ is for 38-off and beyond. Lighter skiers will not benefit from this blade but BigDawg skiers looking for smoother turns and more angle will love this blade.

106+:
106+ blades were new in 2004. 106+ is made from a .098” / 16 layer carbon composite plate that is stiffer but not thicker then the 88+. The 106+ is the less forgiving but faster of then the 88. The 106+ is designed for the skier running deep shortline. For male adult skiers running shortline the 106+ fins are the first choice. A 106+ fin was used to win the 2006 Men 3 National Title!

88+:
88+ blades are made from .098” thick / 16 layer carbon composite plate. The orientation of the layers is designed to offer a balanced horizontal and vertical flex. The 88+ is stiffer and faster then the 105+ but not quite as forgiving. A 88+ fin was used to win the 2006 Men 5 National Title!

105+:
105+ blades are made from .092” thick / 15 layer carbon composite plate. The orientation of the layers for the 105+ are designed to be almost as rigid vertically as the standard 88+ blade but more flexible horizontally. This is C.B.R.’s most forgiving and hardest turning blade. (No longer in stock)

All fins are a CAD copy of the stock shape except for the HO Redim Shape. The Redim shape is a CBR shape developed for the HO Monza. See HO Notes

The CBR version on the D3 fin (The Marauder) is slightly different to allow for a better fit in the fin clamp and more length. Below the water line the Marauder shape is identical to the stock shape. See Marauder

Choosing a blade is like choosing a ski. No one can predict what combination of ski equipment will work best for any skier. The following are rules of thumb at C.B.R.

The newer skis like the HO Monza and the D3 X5 work best with the 106+ blade (or the 88+ for lighter skiers or skiers at longer line lengths). Older designs like the HO Truth or CDX will benefit more from a softer 88+ or 105+ blade.

The choice for Goode is more of a factor of weight and skiing level. Heavier and more advanced skiers will benefit more from the stiffer blades. Lighter and less advanced skiers will not believe how a 88+ or a 105+ will tame their 9500 or 9600.

If your ski is too stiff and or simply unruly, you will be happier with a softer blade

If  your ski is softer then a stiffer blade will work better.

If your style is smooth and consistent you will be able to use a softer blade.

If your ski works well but your style is one that moves around on the ski a lot a stiffer blade will be better.

If you occasionally close out your shoulders at the wakes or sometimes get lean locked you may be happier with a stiffer blade.

If you are looking of a very small tweak then a stiffer blade offers a smaller adjustment.

Lighter skiers benefit more from softer blades.

Remember that C.B.R. needs you to be happy with your purchase. If the blade you purchase turns out to be wrong for you, we will exchange it at no charge.
